Long Time No See

Well Hellllooooooooo!! One of my favorite men of history once said, "Life is what happens when you're busy making plans" (John Lennon). Seems as though life has had it'd hands on me for the past 16 months!! Hopefully now that grad school is finished, and I don't have to spend countless hours reading journal articles about Participatory Action Research, Non-profit Management Theories, and Nonviolent communication, I'll FINALLY be able to dedicate a little more time to the blog. Although my homemaking adventures haven't ended, the documentation of them surely has. Here's a little catch up since the last time we spoke :)

  1. I moved to Albany, NY, started swapping in Troy instead of Saratoga with the From Scratch Club, and finally got to experience the Troy Farmer's Market!!
  2. After a hiatus from canning, and only a few homemaking adventures, I finally graduated with my Master's in Social Work at the University of New York at Albany
  3. I packed up all my things, one canning jar at a time via the AMAZING storage containers from Pantry in a Box, and relocated to Covina, CA to be with the love of my life, my fiance Alice, once and for all.
That is obviously the BARE BONES of it, but if you'd like to see more of the details you can stalk my Facebook account lol. So now here I am, enjoying the beautiful Southern California climate, and year round growing season. With harvesting happening year round here, I've been interested to see how my preserving will evolve. On the east coast I needed to can my tomatoes in order to have them in December, but it seems as though here I'll be eating them fresh with the avocados and grapefruit.

I've already had a few homemaking adventures in my new home including some by request Peach Jam, Peach Bellini Jam, and Peach Honey Butter for my brother (almost) in-law. I've learned that I'm going to have to adjust my normal methods due to the altitude and temperature here, but even though they turned out a little runny, they were still delicious! I've also had some GREAT success with Homemade Chewy Bars, Breakfast Burritos, and Cheez its!! Next round I'll post pictures because these are for sure recipes I'll be repeating.

I've also found a new CSA that delivers right to my front door called Farm Fresh to You to help fill my void of Kilpatrick Family Farm, and hopefully provide for my newest homemaking adventures, and future swaps with a new group of swappers at Borderline Food Swaps NOC or SGV East Food Swap!!

So ta ta for now, and be on the look out for many future posts to come!!
